In light of hitting 1,000 subscribers, here’s a throwback to the first video I ever posted on YouTube.
A reminder that we all have to start somewhere.
This may not seem like much, but it is for me.
The first video I ever made was in 2017. No business. No strategy. No real plan. Just me sharing what I was learning.
The first official YouTube video for my business came 6 years ago with one goal:
Build something that helps people achieve their goals while creating more freedom in my own life.
Over the years, I thought about stopping more than once.
YouTube can be a weird place. Plenty of criticism. Usually from people with no name or photo. Funny how that works.
But I kept going.
Because every time I questioned it, someone would reach out saying the content helped.
If that was you, thank you. It means more than you know.
If you want to see where it all began:
If you've ever wondered whether video marketing is actually worth it, this one's for you.
Let's start with some stats that might surprise you.
70% of marketing professionals report that video converts better than any other medium. The average user spends 88% more time on a website that has video on it. Viewers retain 95% of a message when they watch it in video compared to just 10% when they read it in text. And social video generates 1,200% more shares than images and text combined.
Those numbers are hard to ignore. But here's the thing the stats alone aren't the whole story.
Most people think video marketing works like this: make one video, watch the magic happen, business changes overnight.
That's not how it works.
The single biggest mistake I see is people creating one video, getting frustrated when nothing happens, and walking away convinced that video doesn't work for them. It does work they just stopped too soon.
The reason you need to consistently create video content is because it takes time to build relationships. That's the whole game.
It used to be that eight to twelve contacts or "touches" with a potential customer were enough to move them toward a buying decision. That was already a lot of work.
Now? According to Think by Google, that number has climbed to 24 to 27 touches. That's double. Double the amount of relationship-building required before someone is ready to do business with you.
Think about what that means. Every video you publish is a touch. Every time someone watches you on their phone while they're having their morning coffee, that's a touch. Every time your face shows up in their feed and they recognize you that's a touch.
You are slowly, consistently building a relationship with people who have never met you in person. And over time, that compounds into something real.
That's why one video isn't enough. It was never going to be enough. You need multiple videos, showing up over time, to actually move the needle.
I get it. Video marketing can feel intimidating. Maybe you've tried it before and it didn't go the way you hoped. Maybe you're not sure what to say, or you hate how you look on camera, or you filmed something and never posted it because it didn't feel good enough.
Those feelings are real and they are incredibly common.
But here's what I know: video has an incredible impact on the people around you and on your business. The discomfort is temporary. The relationships you build are lasting.
If you're on the fence, my advice is simple: start creating video. Not perfect video. Not fully produced, studio-quality video. Just start.
And then keep going.
That's how you grow. That's how relationships are built. And that's what this whole channel is about.
Drop a comment and let me know where you're at with video marketing, whether you're just starting out, tried it and stopped, or already in the game and looking to level up. I'd love to hear from you.
Let's grow together.
