New Year! New You! On today's episode of Digital Champions, I discuss why it is important to have a personal brand. I also talk about things you should and shouldn't post.
Hey everyone, on today's episode of Digital Champions, I'm gonna be talking about why you should have a personal brand.
New Year's a new you, it's never too late to reinvent yourself online. If you have a business page and you're posting stuff, that's great. But it's really important to also have a personal brand.
Now, it doesn't necessarily have to be a business personal brand page, but you should be posting regular content on your personal brand social media platforms. One of the reasons that you wanna do that is people get to know you on a more personal level when you're sharing things about you.
In previous episodes, I've talked about why you should connect with business contacts. Because it adds that know like trust factor. People wanna know who they're working with. What do you like, what are your dislikes? Things of that sort. Do you like sports teams? What kind of food do you like? It helps people connect with you on a personal level.
One thing that you should keep in mind when it comes to your personal brand and things that you're posting on social media, you may not even realize how you're portraying your personal brand online.
So for example, stop complaining about things on social media, oh my gosh, did you just say that Nick? I did 'cause I'm sick of seeing it, okay? We don't wanna see it, nobody cares that you're stuck in traffic, okay? And it doesn't help build a personal brand.
Every time that you post you should be thinking about and being considerate of how you're branding yourself with every type of post that you put out there.
Generally, I recommend avoiding politics. I know some people are political and they wanna put their views out there, but I would recommend that you at least refrain from being too pushy towards one side because what may happen is people may start to unfollow you and that's going to hurt you later down the line for people wanting to see your other content that's not political.
Another reason to have a personal brand is that when somebody follows your business page and then also connects with you on social media. If you are then sharing something from your business page or your business page is tagging you in the post, it's now going to be twice as likely that that person now sees your post.
This works the same with staff members that you may have, getting them engaged in your social media. And the more that you collectively do that, the more that your clients and business contacts are then going to see those business posts that you're putting out. And that's why it helps to get your staff involved as well. But connecting with people on social media helps from that algorithm standpoint. And making sure that the people that you'd want to see your posts are seeing your posts.
And lastly, if you're a business owner and you're an entrepreneur, maybe you're not all about one business. Maybe you have your hand in some other things. Having your own personal brand and working on growing your own personal brand allows you to do other activities, allows you to promote other things, allows you to promote other businesses.
They could be your businesses, they could be other people's businesses. But it allows you to have your own vision, your own voice versus your business voice which should be slightly different than what your personal brand voice is.
But regardless, you wanna make sure that you're trying to build both of them at the same time. Having that personal brand, building that business brand and utilizing them together to become a force that is going to improve your overall engagement, followers, and brand.
I hope that helps, take care.
