What Should You Wear In Your Videos

Jul 15, 2020

Does what you wear make a difference? Absolutely! On today's episode of Digital Champions, I discuss what to wear in your videos and why it's important to be consistent with your brand.

When it comes to choosing your attire, a big part of it is branding. This is why I wear the same thing every single time. I have my company shirt on, I wear my favorite blue jacket. This is part of my brand.

My viewers know that when you see me wearing this, you're getting video and digital marketing content. It's similar to how cartoon characters wear the same outfit every day.

So that's how you can be where this becomes part of your brand, part of your brand recognition. So if you decide to, let's say, be a speaker or you're going out marketing and you want to wear this, it becomes something that you're known for.

Now, the other side of that, it doesn't necessarily have to be the same thing, but the one thing that's beneficial about it being the same is that you don't have to worry about what you're wearing or changing your outfit every time.

If you'd like to mix it up, you want to wear something that has your logo on it, so if you have polos that have your logo or something that's going to have that brand recognition or simply just wearing your brand colors, you want to make sure that you're representing your organization, whatever your logo is so that the brand stays consistent.

Now another thing to consider is also what colors you're wearing because you want to make sure that it stands out on the background.

I'm filming over to the green screen, so it gives me the option of choosing whatever background I want.

Now, generally, I don't recommend a green screen. And I did a whole video about what background you should choose (background video), but you want to make sure that whatever you choose as your attire fits well with your background.

You don't want to be wearing the same color that's the same as your background because you're going to appear like you're floating head. We don't want that. All right, so make sure that whatever you choose fits well, that you're going to stand out.

For example, if you like to wear pink and that's part of your brand, that would look really good on a white background. So always things to consider.

One of the things that I recommend is not wearing glasses. I know, I'm sorry for those who do not see well maybe you can get contacts. But the reason why I say that you shouldn't wear glasses is that sometimes you can get a reflection that comes off of the lenses.

Now that being said, maybe glasses are part of your brand and you're always wearing glasses. So this isn't really like a firm recommendation, it's more just something to consider that can happen if you are wearing glasses.

Lastly, when you're choosing your attire, you want to choose something that makes you feel comfortable, something that you like to wear, something that's going to make you feel good so that you can perform well in your videos.

I like my outfit, I like this jacket, but I like the T-shirt that goes with it. I'm comfortable. And also you can't tell, but I'm wearing sweatpants and no shoes. But you're not supposed to know that. Your bottom's not even going to be seen. So it doesn't necessarily matter what it is that you're wearing below.

But again, you want to be comfortable, something that's going to make you feel good, because when you're filming this content, you want to feel your best. You want to feel energized, you want to feel good. So focusing on something that you like to wear, that you feel confident in, that you feel comfortable in can make a huge difference.
